Tuesday, we noted that retail buyers took a bit of a break from purchasing in August. As the last of our late dealer sales reports trickle in, we predict that August auction and dealer-to-dealer selling activity followed a different trajectory, outperforming July. Specifically, we estimate August’s wholesale activity at 3300 – about 100 trucks (or 3%) more than the previous month, and 125 (or 4%) more than August 2013. See graph below for detail.

These results indicate that trade-in activity continues at a similar rate to previous months. Supply of trucks available to the wholesale and retail channels will continue to moderately increase through the end of the year.

Stay tuned for retail and wholesale pricing data next week.
