Honda Looks to Improve Fuel Efficiency, Patents 11-Speed Gearbox

Do more gears equal better fuel economy? A recent look at the patent filings for the auto industry would lead you to believe that is true. Last year, Ford filed for an all-new 11-speed automatic and now it appears to be Honda's turn. According to Autoblog, the Japanese manufacturer has filed a patent for an 11-speed transmission but with a twist.

EPA Backtracks on 54.5 MPG Target

In 2011, the EPA took an assessment of the U.S. auto industry. The study concluded that by 2025, average fuel economy across the country should be 54.5 mpg. Yesterday, according to Automotive News, U.S. regulators announced the industry would likely fall short of that projection.
