The Internet lit up earlier this week as rumors of a possible sale of McLaren Automotive to Apple Incorporated made their rounds. The tech giant had reportedly been in talks with the British supercar maker for months and was on the verge of acquiring the company.

Last year, Ford filed for an all-new 11-speed automatic and now it appears to be Honda's turn. According to Autoblog, the Japanese manufacturer has filed a patent for an 11-speed transmission but with a twist.

Mercedes-Benz Feels Effect from #Dieselgate

It appears shrapnel from the Volkswagen #Dieselgate emissions violation bomb has hit unrelated oil burning brands, with Mercedes-Benz the latest affected.

The Three Pointed Star will not launch its new diesel-powered variants of both the C-Class sedan and GLC utility vehicle in the 2016 calendar year. According to a recent Automotive News article, Mercedes planned to launch the new models this year, but decided to make potential buyers wait one more year.

Volvo’s Profits Soar in First Half

Volvo Cars is on pace for a record setting year. The premium automaker is set to release additional models to their current lineup and sales are already 10.5 percent above last year’s mark. In fact, according to the folks at Volvo, the company has more than tripled its operating income for the first half of the year.

EPA Backtracks on 54.5 MPG Target

In 2011, the EPA took an assessment of the U.S. auto industry. The study concluded that by 2025, average fuel economy across the country should be 54.5 mpg. Yesterday, according to Automotive News, U.S. regulators announced the industry would likely fall short of that projection.
