Ferrari surprised Japan this week with the announcement of the J50, a special edition of the 488 Spider. In typical prancing horse fashion, the limited edition model will feature wild styling and be capped at 10 units. According to Jalopnik, the special edition could also point toward the brand's future styling. The J50, built on the 488 platform, will receive an all-new body, extra horsepower and commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ferrari in Japan.

The styling incorporates a “radically futuristic” language that may serve as a test bed for upcoming models. Much like the 488, the J50 is a two seater, mid-engine layout that will highlight the return of the targa body from the 1970’s and 1980’s. It’s still unclear whether the J50 will be exclusive to Japan or be available globally.
