BMW's mid-size sedan speed sled is back, and more powerful than ever. With 600 horsepower, the five-seater is the quickest version of the high-performance sedan to date. According to BMW, a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.2-seconds is achieved through a feature not found on previous M5 vehicles: all-wheel drive.

M xDrive is the Roundel's latest all-wheel drive system. Its standout feature is the ability to route 100 percent of its power to the rear wheels. The power distribution can be manually selected by the driver, which allows a tailored driving experience.

In addition to M xDrive, a revised transmission and updated chassis have been included in the new sedan. An eight-speed M Steptronic transmission aims to blend performance and efficiency, thanks to three distinct driving modes. Also, chassis improvements, which result in reduced weight, should garner a better road-handling response.

The all new 2018 M5 will be available next spring with an exclusive "first edition" limited to just 50 units in the U.S.
