In the movie, Boiler Room, there is a highly quoted scene where ― in a conference room filled with stockbrokers in desperate need of a pep talk ― Ben Affleck’s character emphatically proclaims to his staff, “Always be closing!”

Apparently, the folks at Subaru have taken heed to a similar sales mantra. The Other Blue Oval had a banner month this past July, making the month its best sales run in company history. Vehicle sales for the month rose 10.5 percent from last year, accounting for 50,517 units sold and beating its previous August 2014 record.

If those impressive figures are not enough, the company had many more sales successes to celebrate. July marked Subaru’s 17th consecutive month of 40,000-plus vehicle sales. To-date the company’s sales are up 13.8 percent over last year’s figures, with 322,935 units moved.

Across the entire lineup, sales were strong, but the WRX/STI marked the biggest percentage increase at 85 percent for July. Forester, Impreza and XV Crosstrek all posted new monthly records gaining 9 percent, 22 percent, and 30 percent respectively. Nearly 60 percent of Subaru sales this year were from customers new to the brand.

According to Thomas J. Doll, Subaru’s president and chief operating officer, the brand’s recent success can be attributed to, “…The hard work and dedication of our retailers, employees, and independent distributors.”
