Our test vehicle came with the Front Climate Comfort and Visibility Package ($2,530), which includes 16-way power ventilated/heated front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, heated windshield, xenon headlights, automatic dimming mirrors, blind spot monitor, cross path detection, and 60/40 rear seats with pass-through. It also came with the Extra Duty Package ($1,500), which includes a twin-speed transfer box (high/low gearing) along with adaptive dynamics capability. A full spare tire, electric towing receiver, and seating for five were a part of the Rover® Tow Package ($900). The upgraded Meridian Premium Audio Package ($1,940) was also fitted to the vehicle, which includes smartphone app integration and 825-watts of audio power. A 4-year InControl Remote & Protect telematics service subscription ($400), 22-inch premium wheel package ($3,000), Grand Black Lacquer wood trim ($350), and Range Rover Sport Protection Package ($537) rounded out the long list of options.

Hits

  • Overall fit and finish of interior and exterior are pleasing to the eye and touch
  • Supercharged V6 engine delivers impressive acceleration; we thought a vehicle of this size would require the supercharged V8 we already tested, but the smaller motor was more than adequate during highway acceleration runs and the daily commute (better fuel economy than the V8, too)
  • Heated and ventilated front seats work quickly, as does heated steering wheel
  • The 4x4 features are mind-boggling and perform exceptionally well (read about how the system performed in our winter review article)
  • Cavernous in the inside, with ample storage capability
  • Perforated leather seating is extremely comfortable
  • Cooler in center console is an unexpected luxury
  • Meridian sound system (upgrade) is audiophile-worthy

Misses

  • Infotainment/navigation system needs a revision; it's slow and has an unappealing interface
  • 22-inch wheels can deliver a choppy ride over rough pavement
  • Must pay extra to get 360-degree cameras; the HSE trim only has a reversing camera
  • Weird gremlins: passenger side rear window would lower automatically for no apparent reason

Value Retention

In regards to value retention, the Range Rover Sports sits in second place (out of nine) within the three-year-old luxury large truck segment by holding 59.6% of its value in 2015.  The Range Rover Sport outperforms the segment value retention average score of 52.5% for 2015.
