In March of this year, BMW executives hinted at the brand's future, and stated it would be adding more high-end models to its lineup. One model, a drop top variant of the hybrid i8, has been confirmed. The second model may bring back a nameplate the German automaker has kept quiet for nearly 20 years.

According to Auto Blog, BMW was caught testing a prototype slated as the next 8-Series. Photos show a full-sized luxury coupe, wearing the distinct kidney grill, which would compete directly with Mercedes-Benz’s S-Class coupe. Details remain scarce, but several indications, including trademarks of the M850 and M8 names, point to the model's revival. Official announcements are expected to be made later this year, and the new luxury coupe could be seen as early as 2020.
